_The overall winner of this edition was Argentina Oria De Rueda, who was the first to cross the finish line in a time of 18:17.
Valencia hosted this morning a new edition of the Carrera de la Mujer Central Lechera Asturiana, which in 2026 debuted a new date on the calendar. More than 6,000 women covered the streets of the running city, turning the capital of the Túria into the best possible stage for this great celebration of women's sport.
The fourth stop of the national circuit of the largest women’s sporting event in Europe once again achieved great success in Valencia, returning with the same purpose for which it was founded 22 years ago: promoting women’s sports participation, uniting women around real causes, and demonstrating that sport also transforms lives.
Beyond running, participants were able to enjoy numerous sports activities throughout the weekend, both in the days leading up to the event at the Sport Woman Expo, and this very morning in the finish area of the race with a large Fitness and Aerobics Festival.
The event was attended by the Managing Director of the Municipal Sports Foundation, María Ángeles Vidal, who was joined by representatives of the sponsoring and collaborating companies of this edition of the Carrera de la Mujer.
A few minutes before 9:00 a.m., when the starting horn was blown, the organization carried out the emotional handover of the solidarity check of 6,199 euros (1 euro per entry) to Fundació Horta Sud, which continues working on the reconstruction of Valencian municipalities affected by the DANA and which the Carrera de la Mujer wishes to continue supporting.
Likewise, the race also paid a more than deserved tribute at the start arch to Mireia Cabañes, European Champion of Adaptive Surfing.
After these emotional moments, the start was given from Avenida Ingeniero Manuel Soto so that the thousands of runners could enjoy the 5 kilometers of the new course, which the race debuted this year, before reaching the long-awaited finish line next to the city’s seafront promenade.
As is now tradition, and with the goal of raising awareness of the fight against gender-based violence, all participants wore the same bib number: 016, the telephone helpline for victims of all forms of violence against women— a reminder that the Carrera de la Mujer maintains edition after edition so that running is also an act of commitment.
A great sporting celebration
In sporting terms, Argentina Oria De Rueda was the first runner to cross the finish line in this edition of the Carrera de la Mujer, stopping the clock at 18:17. Joining her on the podium were sisters Emma and Lidia Lacal, Vanesa López and Rosa Peguero, who finished in 18:46, 18:57, 19:25 and 19:39, respectively. These first five runners received a commemorative trophy at the end of the race.
This year, the Carrera de la Mujer featured a very special participant, Aminata Soucko Damba, of Malian origin and founder of the Red Aminata in Valencia, focused on supporting refugee women who are survivors of female genital mutilation and other forms of violence against women. Aminata thus took part in her first race, excited and thrilled, like the thousands of other women with whom she shared her first 5 kilometers as a runner.
After the finish arrivals and the traditional Fitness and Aerobics Festival, which featured a warm-up led by Central Lechera Asturiana, the trophies were also awarded to the winners of the remaining categories, and together with Banco Santander, the oldest female participant in the race was honored.
More charitable initiatives
This year, the organization continued offering 100 fully charitable entries in support of Alanna, a non-profit organization created in 2002 with the goal of achieving an egalitarian society and the inclusion of women in situations of severe vulnerability.
The +SolidariAs section this year in Valencia was represented by the AMU Association, which works to promote the knowledge and research of uveal melanoma, a rare type of cancer that affects the eye.
In addition, at the end of the last of the 9 races in 2026, the Carrera de la Mujer will make a contribution of 100,000 euros to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, 20,000 euros more than in 2025, aiming to reach 200,000 euros in donations across all its charitable projects and the contributions made by runners in this edition.
Five editions of #laMquefalta in Valencia
Five editions. That is how long the #laMquefalta movement has been present in the Carrera de la Mujer in Valencia, giving voice, face and name to metastatic breast cancer. The initiative, promoted by the Spanish Metastatic Breast Cancer Association (AECMM) in collaboration with the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance, has turned each edition of the race into a loudspeaker for women living with this disease.
When the #laMquefalta movement began in 2022, only 3 out of 10 Spaniards knew for sure what metastatic breast cancer was. Today that number is 93%. Five editions, five years of real awareness, with name and face, in Europe’s largest women’s race.
The national circuit of the Carrera de la Mujer
"When we started, no one imagined this would get this far. But the purpose was always the same: that no woman should feel that sport wasn’t for her. Twenty-two years later, we’re still working on that." says María Wandosell, CEO of Sport Life Ibérica.
In 2025 the historic figure of 1,600,000 women participating since 2004 was surpassed in what is the largest women’s sporting event in Europe. In 2026 the goal remains to promote running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, and to maintain a social commitment that encompasses causes linked to women’s health, the fight against cancer, its research and prevention, and women’s rights against gender-based violence and social and educational inequalities.
The national circuit of the Carrera de la Mujer Central Lechera Asturiana 2026 will feature the main sponsorship of Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, along with Marlene, Octopus Energy and Neutrogena. Volvo is the official vehicle and Correos Express the official logistics provider. With the collaboration of Cosmo, Cadena Dial and the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance.
With local support from Institutos Odontológicos, Ziaja, Planet Fitness, GOYA, Tongil, Compeed, Tourism of Oman, Vareser and the World Avocado Organisation, and the City Council of Valencia, through its Municipal Sports Foundation.
