The Central Lechera Asturiana Women's Race returns on Sunday, June 21 to Gijón

The Central Lechera Asturiana Women's Race returns on Sunday, June 21 to Gijón

Gijón, June 8, 2026 – Gijón will once again host the great celebration of women’s sports at the European level next Sunday, June 21, starting at 10:00 a.m., with a new edition of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race. The race will take participants through just over 5 kilometers of the course, followed by a one-hour fitness and aerobics festival. As is tradition, the start line will be located on Avenida Albert Einstein and the finish line at Las Mestas Equestrian Center.

The official presentation of the event took place today at the Gijón City Hall, in an event that included the presence of Montserrat López, Councilor for Culture, Museums and Creative Industries; Pablo Blanco, Director of the Municipal Sports Board; and the Communications Director of Central Lechera Asturiana, Manuel Reinerio. They were joined by Angélica Miras, president of Corazones Solidarios Asturias; athletes from the Gijón Atletismo club Charo Blanco and Sonia Nogueiro; and Henar Calleja, spokesperson for the race.

As a preliminary step to the race, the traditional runners’ expo will be held on Saturday, June 20 at the Palacio de Deportes de la Guía “Presidente Adolfo Suárez”, with continuous hours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Throughout the day, various guided activities will be offered, such as Zumba Fitness, Pilates with Pilar García, Burlesque with Sheila Colmenero, Hypopressives and pelvic floor training with Natalia Velázquez, “Stronger Together” with Nerea Antuña, Body Combat with Emma Martínez and Body Mind with María Jaimez.

The Women’s Race stands out above all for being a powerful support network. This year, the featured project of the +SolidariAs section in Gijón is Corazones Solidarios Asturias, a non-profit association that creates “heart pillows” to ease the postoperative recovery of people undergoing breast cancer surgery. The organization will make a donation of €1,370 to cover the fabric costs for these therapeutic cushions for the 2027 edition. In addition, 50 charity bibs have been allocated in support of the Galbán Association, an entity that provides support to children with cancer and their families, and which will be present at the expo alongside Wanawake Mujer and Pulseras Rosas.

The commitment goes even further: every woman will cross the finish line with a medal that helps fund science. Proceeds from the merchandising (medal, bracelet, rain poncho and waist pack) will be donated entirely to the Spanish Breast Cancer Federation (FECMA) for a SEOM research grant. Likewise, the organization has announced that, at the close of the nine races, it will contribute €100,000 to the Spanish Association Against Cancer —€20,000 more than in 2025—, hoping to reach €200,000 in total donations in this edition.

The national series achieved in 2025 the historic figure of more than 1,600,000 participants since its creation in 2004, consolidating itself as the largest women’s sporting event in Europe. In 2026, its goal remains to promote physical activity, fight cancer, support research and prevention, and combat gender violence and the inequalities faced by women.

This 2026 edition features the main sponsorship of Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander; the co-sponsorship of Marlene, Octopus Energy and Neutrogena; Volvo as the official vehicle and Correos Express as the logistics provider. All this with the collaboration of Cosmo, Cadena Dial and Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance. At the local level, the Asturias event is supported by the Gijón City Council and the Gijón Athletics Club.
