Vitoria–Gasteiz turned out today for the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Run, which brought together 2,100 women

Vitoria – Gasteiz once again hosted a new edition of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Run today with 2,100 participants completing the slightly more than 5km course, starting and finishing in Mendizabala, and who later joined the one-hour fitness and aerobics festival. Young Abby Campuzano claimed her first victory in the Women’s Run circuit after finishing fifth in the Gran Canaria race earlier this year, clocking 22:13 and beating Ania Hernández by 25 seconds, who was the pre-race favorite. The Canarian Campuzano, just 14 years old, controlled the race very intelligently and showed a maturity unusual for an athlete with so little competitive experience. The third spot on the podium went to Ibone Sánchez (23:10), while fourth and fifth place went to Carol Bello and Consuelo Torres, respectively.

Before the start, the entire “pink wave” paid an emotional tribute to the Álava athletes who won “gold” at the Atlanta Olympic Games: Tania Lamarca, Lorena Gurendez, and Estibaliz Martínez, who were the honorary patrons of this edition of the Vitoria - Gasteiz Women’s Run. These women won gold in the group rhythmic gymnastics event 30 years ago and are role models for all young girls starting out in sport today.

The Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Run, at the end of the last of the 9 races this year, will make a contribution of €100,000 to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, €20,000 more than in 2025, and aims to reach €200,000 in donations across all its charity projects and the contribution from the runners in this edition.

In addition, it was possible to secure around 50 fully charity bibs in support of the ASAMMA Women’s Association (Alava Association of Women with Breast and Gynecological Cancer), and another 50 with full donation going to Maite Ta Bizi, the metastatic breast cancer association in Euskadi.

After Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid, Vitoria – Gasteiz (May 31), the circuit will continue in Valencia (June 7), Gijón (June 21), A Coruña (September 27), Zaragoza (November 8), Sevilla (November 15), and will conclude in Barcelona on November 22.

In the past 2025 edition, the historic milestone of 1,600,000 women participating since 2004 was surpassed in what is the largest women’s sports event in Europe. In 2026, the goal will continue to be promoting running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fighting cancer, raising funds to support research, and raising awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combating gender violence and the social and educational inequalities that women face in all areas.

Five editions. That is how long the #laMquefalta movement has been present in the Vitoria - Gasteiz Women’s Run, giving voice, face, and name to metastatic breast cancer. The initiative, promoted by the Spanish Metastatic Breast Cancer Association (AECMM) in collaboration with the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance, has turned each edition of the race into a loudspeaker for women living with this disease. When #laMquefalta started in 2022, only 3 out of every 10 Spaniards said they knew for sure what metastatic breast cancer was. Today, 93% of the population has heard of it — a change that reflects the real impact of five years of awareness.

The national circuit of the 2026 Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Run will have the main sponsorship of Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, together with Marlene, Octopus Energy and Neutrogena. Volvo is the official vehicle and Correos Express the official logistics provider. With the collaboration of Cosmo, Cadena Dial and the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance.

At the local level, the race is sponsored by: Provincial Council of Álava, Institutos Odontológicos, Ziaja, Fontarel, the World Avocado Organization, Grupo Amutio, VariTek, and El Correo, and supported by the Vitoria – Gasteiz City Council.
