The Central Lechera Asturiana Women's Race in Zaragoza gathered 15,000 participants today

Today the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race of Zaragoza 2025 was held with more than 15,000 participants, a historic participation record, who turned the Aragonese asphalt pink on a morning of sport, solidarity and advocacy for the role of women in the world of sport and in society in general. Sara Benedí (from the Oysho Running Club) achieved her fourth victory “at home” and fifth overall, leading the local “pink wave”, the seventh race of the national circuit, and she was the first woman across the finish line after the beautiful course of just over 5 km, located in the heart of Plaza de El Pilar. After crossing the finish line, the 15,000 runners joined a complete one-hour fitness and aerobics festival that wrapped up the day, featuring the best instructors from VivaGym, Zumba and Ballet Fit. And the live performance of the group Team D'Luxe.

It was a very special day coinciding with the events celebrating International Breast Cancer Day, which played an important role in the moments leading up to the start, where the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, was present supporting the “pink wave”. María José Rivas, president of AMAC GEMA, read a brief statement for World Breast Cancer Day.

Sara Benedí, from the Oysho Running Club, led the “Pink Wave” of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race of A Coruña, stopping the clock in Plaza de El Pilar at 21:40, finishing less than 30 seconds ahead of Greta Guerrero (22:06), the second runner at the finish. Benedí thus achieved her fifth overall victory, and her fourth in Zaragoza after her wins in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Third place went to Beatriz Martínez (22:10), and the top 5 at the finish was completed by Malika Asahssahh, fourth, and the indestructible Isabel Macías, fifth overall.

In 2025 the goal will continue to be promoting running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fighting cancer, raising funds to support research, and raising awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combating gender-based violence and the social and educational inequalities women suffer in all areas.

At the end of the circuit, a contribution of 90,000 euros will be made to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and donations of €1,000 will also be made to Wanawake Mujer, which fights against female genital mutilation and other forms of violence against women; Fundación GEICAM, leaders in breast cancer research; and the Clara Campoamor Association, which defends women’s rights in all areas.

The Women’s Race is the largest women’s sporting event in Europe, and it is also an international benchmark for solidarity support to all types of organizations. Its goal after 21 years of history remains to promote running and aerobic exercise among all women, promote health and raise awareness about the importance of exercise and good habits for a healthier life, and give visibility to causes supporting women such as combating gender-based violence and the social and educational inequalities women suffer in all areas.

As part of the race’s solidarity initiatives, it was possible to obtain some bib numbers that were entirely charitable in support of the local association AMAC-GEMA, whose objective is to provide a support and accompaniment space for women affected by genital and/or breast cancer, contributing to their physical, social and emotional well-being.

A group of women supported by UNHCR ran the race invited by the organization. This type of initiative is valuable for creating bonds among participants and with the host community. Moreover, this action is fundamental for the empowerment and strength it provides to the runners and the great awareness-raising work it carries out, helping more people little by little to learn about the enormous work performed by organizations like UNHCR throughout Spain. A group of women from the Federico Ozanam Foundation will also run invited by the organization.

In 2025 the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer will also be in Zaragoza. The #laMquefalta movement, launched by the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance and the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer (ACMM), calls citizens, companies and institutions to action to make the metastatic stage of breast cancer visible and raise awareness about this disease. The conversation about breast cancer is incomplete if metastasis is not addressed, and it is currently little known by the population. This movement aims to highlight the particularities, treatment and needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer, which affects more people each year in our country.

The national circuit of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race 2025 is sponsored mainly by Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, along with TotalEnergies and Marlene with the collaboration of Batiste, Cosmo TV, DIAL and Daiichi-Sankyo Astrazeneca. Volvo is the official vehicle, MRW the courier service and Renfe is the official train of the Women’s Race. The event is supported by the Zaragoza City Council, and locally sponsored by Ziaja, Institutos Odontológicos, VivaGym, Goya, Mann Hummel, Olimpo Atletismo and Vida Recoletas Salud.
