The Central Lechera Asturiana A Coruña Women's Race will bring together 8,000 participants this Sunday

Today the long-awaited next edition of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race was officially presented at the A Coruña City Hall, which will take place this Sunday, September 28, starting at 10 a.m. The Galician city will once again host one of the main events of the Women’s Race circuit, and the beautiful course of just over 6.3 km will once again turn pink, the color of the official Oysho race shirts that will be given to the 8,000 participants who, in addition to taking part in the race, will join after crossing the finish line on Buenos Aires Avenue (next to the Riazor sports complex) the spectacular and lively fitness and aerobics festival lasting more than an hour, led by Termaria Casa del Agua, Ballet Fit and Zumba.

In attendance at the presentation were Inés Rey, mayor of A Coruña; Montse Vázquez, president of Bolboretas Coruña (the beneficiary entity of this year’s +SolidariAs project); Marta Núñez, from ACADAR; and Henar Calleja, spokesperson for the Women’s Race.

The race expo will take place, as usual in recent editions, this Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. at Palexco.

During the press conference, homage was paid to the association “La Ciencia es femenino” within the #MásQueUnaMuñeca project, which last year presented the scientific doll model and this year the astronaut one. The award was collected by the Galician scientists: Isabel Fernández, Victoria Otero, Blanca Laffón, Ana González, Amparo Casares, Vanesa Valdeiglesias and Rosalía García.

“La Ciencia es femenino” is the CUAC FM radio program about Galician women scientists that is broadcast every two weeks on Sundays from 12 to 1 p.m. on 103.4 FM. Women and science have been together since the beginning of time, but they have only recently begun to appear in books and be known to the general public.

On Sunday, just before the start, a well-deserved tribute will also be paid to Julia Benedetti from A Coruña, a Galician Olympian in skateboarding at the Tokyo and Paris Games. Benedetti is an example for all women athletes and a role model for girls who want to become elite athletes.

As part of the race’s solidarity initiatives, it will once again be possible to obtain one of the 50 fully charity bibs in favor of ACADAR (Association of Women with Disabilities of Galicia), an entity that promotes, coordinates and advocates for the defense of the rights of women with disabilities, and with which the race organization has been collaborating directly for several years.

In the +SolidariAs section this year in A Coruña, we highlight Bolboretas Coruña Dragon Boat, a non-profit sports and cultural association made up entirely of people who have had or have breast cancer, with no age limit, and who practice the Dragon Boat discipline, which helps minimize and improve both the physical sequelae (the most frequent being lymphedema) and the psychological ones that remain after surgeries and treatments.

A group of women supported by UNHCR will run the race invited by the organization. This type of initiative is valuable for creating bonds between participants and with the host community. In addition, this action is essential for the empowerment and strength it provides to runners and the great awareness work it carries out, helping more and more people to learn about the enormous work carried out by entities like UNHCR throughout Spain.

The RC Deportivo Foundation will give away 1,000 tickets for the women’s Deportivo match against Madrid CFF on Sunday 28 at 4 p.m. They will be handed out at a booth at the finish to Women’s Race participants who wish to attend the match.

In 2025 the goal will remain to promote running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fight cancer, raise funds to promote research and raise awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combat gender violence (all participants wear bib number 016, the hotline for victims of gender-based violence) and the social and educational inequalities suffered by women in all areas.

At the end of the circuit, a donation of 90,000 euros will be made to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and donations of €1,000 will also be made to Wanawake Mujer, which fights against female genital mutilation and other forms of violence against women; the GEICAM Foundation, leaders in breast cancer research; and the Clara Campoamor Association, which defends women’s rights in all areas.

In 2025 the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer will also be in A Coruña. The #laMquefalta movement, launched by the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance and the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer (ACMM), calls citizens, companies and institutions to action to make the metastatic stage of breast cancer visible and raise awareness about this disease. The breast cancer conversation is incomplete if metastasis is not addressed, and it is currently little known by the population. This movement aims to highlight the particularities, treatment and needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer, which affects more people every year in our country.

The national circuit of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race 2025 is mainly sponsored by Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, along with TotalEnergies and Marlene, with the collaboration of Batiste, Cosmo TV, DIAL and Daiichi-Sankyo Astrazeneca. Volvo is the official vehicle, MRW the courier service and Renfe is the official train of the Women’s Race. The event is supported by the City Hall of A Coruña, and locally sponsored by Ziaja, Fundación San Rafael, Northius, Gadis, Nordés Ancín, La Voz de Galicia, Fontarel, Nayarit, La Piadina and Termaria, the house of water.
