Today the Carrera de la Mujer Central Lechera Asturiana of A Coruña 2025 was held with more than 8,000 participants, a historic participation record, who turned the Galician asphalt pink on a sporting, supportive morning that also championed the role of women in the world of sport and in society as a whole. Ángela Viciosa (from the Oysho Running Club) achieved her first victory leading the A Coruña “pink wave”, the sixth race of the national circuit, and was the first woman across the finish line after the beautiful 6.3km route, located near the Riazor sports complex.
The more than 8,000 women who completed the slightly more than 5km joined the race to highlight the promotion of women’s sport, solidarity, the fight against breast cancer and against gender-based violence. After crossing the finish line, they joined a full one-hour fitness and aerobics festival to close the day, led by Termaria Casa del Agua, Ballet Fit and Zumba.
Before the start, a moving tribute was paid to Galician Olympian Julia Benedetti, Olympian in skateboarding at the Tokyo and Paris Games. Benedetti is an example for all sportswomen and a role model for young girls who aspire to become elite athletes.
Ángela Viciosa, from the Oysho Running Club, led the “Pink Wave” of the Carrera de la Mujer Central Lechera Asturiana of A Coruña stopping the clock in Riazor at 22’50, finishing almost a minute ahead of her teammate Alicia Álvarez, second woman at the finish. Third place went to Lara Solsona (23:55), and the top 5 was completed by Alba Porto in fourth and Penélope Martínez in fifth place overall.
In 2025 the goal will continue to be to promote running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fight cancer, raise funds to support research and raise awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combat gender-based violence and the social and educational inequalities women face in all fields.
At the end of the circuit, a contribution of 90,000 euros will be made to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and donations of €1,000 will also be made to Wanawake Mujer, which fights female genital mutilation and other forms of violence against women; the GEICAM Foundation, leaders in breast cancer research; and the Clara Campoamor Association, which defends women’s rights in all areas.
As part of the charity initiatives of the race, it has been possible to obtain one of the 50 fully charity bibs in support of ACADAR (Asociación de Mulleres con Discapacidade de Galicia), an organisation that promotes, coordinates and advocates for the defence of the rights of women with disabilities, and with which the race organisers have been collaborating directly for several years.
In the +SolidariAs section this year in A Coruña, Bolboretas Coruña Dragon Boat was highlighted, a non-profit sports and cultural association made up entirely of people who have had or currently have breast cancer, with no age limit, and who practise the Dragon Boat discipline, which helps to minimise and improve both the physical after-effects (most commonly lymphedema) and the psychological ones that remain after surgeries and treatments.
A group of women supported by UNHCR will run the race invited by the organisers. This type of initiative is valuable for creating bonds between the participants and with the host community. In addition, this action is essential for the empowerment and strength it gives the runners, as well as for the significant awareness-raising work it promotes, helping more people to learn about the enormous work carried out by organisations like UNHCR throughout Spain.
The RC Deportivo Foundation has given away 1,000 tickets for the women’s Deportivo match against Madrid CFF today, Sunday 28th at 16:00. They will be handed out at a booth at the finish line to participants of the Carrera de la Mujer who wish to attend the match.
In 2025 the goal will continue to be to promote running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fight cancer, raise funds to promote research and raise awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combat gender-based violence (all participants wear bib 016, the hotline for victims of gender violence) and the social and educational inequalities women suffer in all areas.
In 2025 the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer will also be in A Coruña. The #laMquefalta movement, launched by the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance and the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer (ACMM), calls citizens, companies and institutions to action to raise awareness of the metastatic stage of breast cancer and to educate society about this disease. The conversation about breast cancer is incomplete if metastasis is not addressed, and currently it is little known by the public. This movement aims to highlight the specific characteristics, approach and needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer, which affects more people each year in our country.
The national circuit of the Carrera de la Mujer Central Lechera Asturiana 2025 is sponsored mainly by Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, along with TotalEnergies and Marlene, with the collaboration of Batiste, Cosmo TV, DIAL and Daiichi-Sankyo Astrazeneca. Volvo is the official vehicle, MRW the courier service and Renfe is the official train of the Carrera de la Mujer. The race has the support of the City Council of A Coruña, and local sponsorship from Ziaja, Fundación San Rafael, Northius, Gadis, Nordés Ancín, La Voz de Galicia, Fontarel, Nayarit, La Piadina and Termaria, the house of water.
