Once again, the A Coruña Women’s Race with ACADAR
ACADAR, the Galician Association of Women with Disabilities, is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 and declared of public utility in 2020, in recognition of its work and social commitment. The organization’s mission is to promote, coordinate and advocate for the defense of the rights of women with disabilities in all areas of life. For the past 17 years, ACADAR has raised awareness and taken action regarding the different factors that affect the autonomy of women and girls with disabilities, which may place them in a position of greater discrimination and inequality.
Since its beginnings, ACADAR has worked from a feminist and intersectional perspective. It develops different programs and activities focused on empowerment, mental health, social and labor inclusion, accessible leisure and sports, equality education, violence prevention and sexuality.
These programs include both individual and group support for participating women and address multiple aspects: self-awareness and self-care, health and well-being, healthy experiences of sexuality, identification and prevention of violence, development of work skills, support and community participation. This work is complemented by training and awareness-raising actions aimed at professionals, families, educational centers and society in general; a broad community that is key to making ACADAR’s work possible.
Among the different ways to collaborate, the Women’s Race is a very important event for raising awareness of diversity and the right to participate in accessible sports. You can contribute to ACADAR’s work through the Women’s Race by purchasing one of their 100% charity race bibs on their website www.carreradelamujer.com.
At the Runner’s Expo, ACADAR will have an information stand where the 100% charity race bibs can be collected: Friday the 25th (16:00 - 20:00) and Saturday the 26th (10:00 - 14:00 / 16:00 – 19:00) at Palexco (Muelle de Trasatlánticos, s/n, 15003 A Coruña). On race day, ACADAR will also have an information stand in the start/finish area (Av. Buenos Aires - A Coruña). During these three days you will be able to learn more about their projects, activities and services dedicated to improving the quality of life of women and girls with disabilities. Come and visit!
