38,000 participants conquered Madrid today in the most crowded Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race in history

Madrid today hosted the edition with the highest participation in the 22-year history of the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race, with 38,000 participants completing the slightly more than 6km course, starting on Paseo de la Castellana and finishing in Camoens, running through such iconic streets as Gran Vía. Afterwards, they joined the fitness and aerobics festival and the musical performances by Alejo Stivel and Team D’Luxe after crossing the finish line. Sara Reimondo, from Team Oysho and who has already won previous editions of the Women’s Race in Gijón or Vitoria, claimed victory by beating Ivana Zagorac, who was the favorite after her two wins in previous editions in Madrid. Reimondo and Zagorac held a beautiful duel during the first kilometers, but from the halfway point of the race the Asturian runner took the lead after a powerful surge, which allowed her to cross the finish line alone in 20:40. Zagorac, a Serbian athlete based in Madrid and a researcher at CENIO (National Cancer Research Center), could not achieve her third consecutive win although she did secure a well-earned second place (21:04), in what is the largest women’s sporting event in Europe.

Laura Martínez, who was already second last 2025, was the third woman to cross the finish line, stopping the clock at 21:04, ahead of Alicia Álvarez, fourth, and Laura López, fifth place.

Before the start, an emotional tribute was paid to the Paralympic skier Audrey Pascual, who sponsored this edition. Around 100 refugee women supported by UNHCR and CEAR ran the race invited by the organization. These types of initiatives are valuable for creating bonds between the participants and with the host community. Furthermore, this action is essential for the empowerment and strength it gives to the runners and the great awareness-raising work it carries out, helping more and more people gradually learn about the enormous work carried out by organizations such as UNHCR or CEAR throughout Spain.

The Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race, after the last of the 9 races of this year, will make a contribution of €100,000 to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, €20,000 more than in 2025, and expects to reach €200,000 in donations across all its charity projects and the contribution of the runners in this edition.

In addition, it was possible to obtain one of the 100 fully charity bibs in support of the Sandra Ibarra Foundation, a non-profit organization that has promoted and funded prevention, awareness, and research campaigns and projects against cancer, and has actively collaborated in the development of Healthcare Humanization.

After Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid, the circuit will continue in Vitoria – Gasteiz (May 31), Valencia (June 7), Gijón (June 21), A Coruña (September 27), Zaragoza (November 8), Sevilla (November 15), and will conclude in Barcelona on November 22.

This past 2025 the historic figure of 1,600,000 women participating since 2004 was surpassed, in what is the largest women’s sporting event in Europe. In 2026 the goal will continue to be promoting running and aerobic exercise among women of all ages, fighting against cancer, raising funds to support its research, and raising awareness about the importance of early prevention, as well as combating gender violence and the social and educational inequalities women suffer in all areas.

Five editions. That is how long the #laMquefalta movement has been present in the Madrid Women’s Race, giving voice, face, and name to metastatic breast cancer. The initiative, promoted by the Spanish Metastatic Breast Cancer Association (AECMM) in collaboration with the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance, has turned each edition of the race into a loudspeaker for women living with this disease. When #laMquefalta began in 2022, only 3 out of 10 Spaniards claimed to confidently know what metastatic breast cancer is. Today, 93% of the population has heard about it, an evolution that reflects the real impact of five years of awareness.

The national circuit of the 2026 Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race will feature the main sponsorship of Central Lechera Asturiana, Oysho and Banco Santander, together with Marlene and Neutrogena. Volvo is the official vehicle and Correos Express the official logistics provider. With the collaboration of Cosmo, Cadena Dial and the Daiichi Sankyo | AstraZeneca Alliance with the #laMquefalta movement, and with the support of the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid.

At the local level the race is sponsored by: Institutos Odontológicos, Ziaja, Olistic, Ahorramas, Fontarel, GOYA, CICVE Viamed, Planet Fitness, tripontrib, Ancient+Brave, Amazing Thailand, Stand Up by L’Oreal and ESTEE LAUDER.
