Recovering the photographic heritage affected by the DANA is proving to be an immense challenge. With the Salvem les Fotos project, nearly one million photographs have been collected from homes across our region, and there is still much to be done to restore the memory of our towns and preserve the everyday history of the affected families. Initially launched by the Universitat de València and with the collaboration of various organizations, public institutions, and local companies, this project protects an emotional and collective heritage that documents the life, celebrations, spaces, and social relationships of the community.
So far, thanks to financial contributions, recent additions, and volunteers, at the Museu Comarcal de l’Horta Sud more than 128,700 images have been extracted and the material has been returned to 117 families, but there is still much work to be done to recover the collective memory of the region. This is why we are making a call to the public to join the project as volunteers: every hour and effort contributed is a small step toward restoring the history and memories of our community.
